Drug Traffickers Call 911 To Report Being Followed During ‘Paranoid Episode,' Sheriff Says
By Jamie Burch, ABC 7 News
HARTLEY, Texas (KVII) — Two drug trafficking suspects were arrested after call- ing 911 on them-
selves during a "paranoid episode."
According to the Hartley County Sheriff's Office, it started when the suspects called
911 around mid- night to say they were being fol- lowed.
The dispatcher told them to stop at the Hitchin Post in Hartley
and meet with a deputy.
Before they got to the gas station, the suspects stopped their pickup in the mid- dle of Hwy 87, got
out and ran towards the deputy's vehicle "in an aggressive manner."
"They were ordered down on the ground, at gun point, and placed in hand- cuffs," said the sheriff's office.
The suspects then told the deputy they had marijuana in their pickup.
During a search, deputies found three totes and a suitcase filled with one pound bags of marijuana.
They seized 129 bags total.
Both suspects were arrested for
trafficking.
According to the sheriff's office, the suspects were high on meth and having a paranoid episode as a result.
Sheriff Chanze Fowler said the suspects had been up for three days straight.
According to Fowler, the sus- pects said they were headed from Kansas to Alabama. But Fowler said it is more likely they were headed from Colorado to Alabama based on them passing through Hartley County.
