LAS VEGAS (KSNV)
— Spiegelworld, the production company behind the shows "ABSINTHE" and "OPIUM," has pur- chased a small desert town with the goal of turning it into a "circus vil- lage."
A spokesperson for Spiegelworld says the company will revive the town of Nipton, located about an hour's drive south of Las Vegas.
The goal is to revive the town as "the center of the circus company's global operations," where artists and performers can create and experi- ment, according to the spokesperson.
Nipton is an unin- corporated town in San Bernardino County,
California. The town announced it was up for
sale back in 2020 for a listing price of $2.75 million. Spiegelworld's pur- chase price for Nipton was not disclosed.
"Having a ram- bunctious circus company purchase a small town may sound like the Schitt’s Creek spin-off series. But that couldn’t be further from the truth," Spiegelworld's Ross Mollison said in a news release. "When we visited as guests a few years back, we fell in love with the
peacefulness, the vast desert vistas, and the fireside chats with freight train drivers, min- ers and workers."
Plans for the town include an "art- directed, luxury accommodation and restaurant experience," which would be available to a limited num- ber of visitors. Spiegelworld also wants to build on Nipton's existing sculpture commis- sions with an artist-in-residence program.
A creative team will visit Nipton in February to devel- op ideas for a show inspired by Formula One's Las Vegas Grand Prix, which will be held in November.
