News of more Mitre 10 MEGAs
MITRE 10 HAS more plans involving current Mitre 10 owner-operators trading up to larger, MEGA scale operations.
Announced last year, a new Mitre 10 MEGA for Oamaru is set to open on Dee Street during the second half of this year.
An $18 million investment, the new 6,000m2 Mitre 10 MEGA store was well underway last month, according to the ODT.
The new build covers the former North Otago Brewery, which piqued the interest of Heritage New Zealand who then designated a staff member to observe progress.
Simon Lye is the owner-operator of the new MEGA and has been running the longstanding Mitre 10 on Cross Street which is now up for lease.
He says: “We are excited to be bringing a Mitre 10 MEGA to the Waitaki district, providing a more comprehensive home improvement offer to the community including extended and new product ranges and a fully serviced trade offer, as well as amenities like the Columbus Café and playground for local families.”
Mitre 10 also has eyes on Papamoa for a MEGA, we understand.
Grant Fraser, Mitre 10 New Zealand’s Chief Legal & Property O cer, says:
“Papamoa is expanding rapidly and
we identi ed the need to increase our footprint in this area to meet the needs of this fast growing community.
“Last year we settled on a piece of land, and we are now in the process of applying for resource consent for a new Mitre 10 MEGA and a medical facility on the site. We are in very early stages of the process and timelines have not yet been confirmed.
“As a co-operative, our stores are all locally owned and operated, and we
can con rm that the current owners of Mitre 10 Papamoa would take over this store and are looking forward to serving their community with an even greater o ering.
“Of course, a larger store will also need a larger team, though it is too early to say
how many new roles this would create.” Mitre 10 Papamoa’s current store Co-Owners are Brian and Loretta
Johnstone (see photo above celebrating being named Mitre 10 Store of the Year for 2017).
