Council, the first such appointment. Philip joins Waihanga Ara Rau from
the Health & Safety Association of NZ, where he is currently Executive Director.
The six Workforce Development Councils (WDCs) are being established through the Reform of Vocational Education (ROVE) and will come into effect in October 2021 with a mandate to set standards, develop qualifications and shape the curriculum of vocational education.
The Waihanga Ara Rau WDC covers construction (including heavy, civil, residential, non-residential, and related engineering) and associated industries and trades, as well as infrastructure, including water supply and drainage, gas supply, electricity generation and distribution, telecommunication,
road and bridge building, and related engineering.
The NZ Certified Builders Association (NZCB) has appointed Ian Chamberlain
as its new Board Chair, as well as two new Independent
Directors, former Ministry of Housing and Department of Building & Housing Chief Executive and now professional director, Katrina Bach, and Chartered Accountant and financial advisory consultant, Andrée Atkinson. A builder for more than 37 years, Ian Chamberlain has stepped up to the role of Chair from being Vice Chair over the past year. The new appointments follow former NZCB Chair Kevin Sceats’ completion of his term as Independent Director.
Riviera Hardware Holdings has two significant appointments to announce, starting with former North Harbour Rugby Union CEO Dave Gibson, who

Harbour Rugby, Dave
was responsible for
overseeing strategy,
business operations
and people
leadership, as well as a large stakeholder engagement aspect. He says: “I have only been with the Riviera team for a short time however it is inspiring what they are doing now and as they look ahead. There is much I don’t know so I will be getting comfortable being uncomfortable initially but there is no better way to learn.”
Adding to the retail side of Rivera’s business is Sam Singh, the new Store Manager for Mitre 10 MEGA New Lynn.

extraordinary team to provide customers with world class shopping experience. We will do this by working together as one team and ensuring that we nail product, price, promotion and service!” Sam has vast experience in retail, most recently
as National Commercial Manager at The Warehouse Group and as Z Energy Ops Manager. Before that, Sam worked for 13+ years at the Warehouse in store management.
Ryuta Hayashibara
is the new Managing Director of Daikin New Zealand. After spending 15-years
at Daikin Industries
in Japan, Mr
Hayashibara will drive
Daikin’s existing sustainability programme and continue its focus on reducing its overall environmental impact. Daikin’s commitment to improving indoor air quality in Kiwi homes has seen it enter a partnership with the New Zealand Green Building Council.
Other key recent appointments
at Daikin include the promotion of Commercial Manager Richard Creagh to General Manager, and the promotion of Residential & Light Commercial Sales
Manager Gary Felstead to Deputy General Manager.
BCITO Chief Financial Officer Jason Hungerford has been appointed Director to lead BCITO as it becomes a business division
of Te Pūkenga subsidiary Work-Based Learning (WBL).
He says: “This is a fantastic opportunity to help influence the future of vocational education, while continuing to support our industries, employers and learners through a period of record growth.” Prior to joining BCITO Jason held leadership roles with Vodafone, KiwiRail and Bathurst Resources and worked for a leading cement producer and building products supplier in the UK. Sefton Ingham, founder of Tauranga’s Fasteners New Zealand, has a new role, that of product specialist role with Steel & Tube, which has acquired Sefton’s’ business. With significant experience
in the frame and truss industry, Sefton founded Fasteners New Zealand in 2014 and says Steel & Tube, it was Sefton’s “vision to expand the reach
of the business” which resulted in
the acquisition. For his part, Sefton is “confident that the business will be even stronger when backed by Steel & Tube’s resources and people.”
Nigel Smith has been
appointed the new
Chair of the BRANZ
Board as Dr Helen
Anderson completes
her third and final
term. Nigel has 30+
years’ experience in the New Zealand construction industry and manages franchise building company Milestone Homes. Nigel holds positions on various boards, including as a Director of several Canterbury-based building companies and the Registered Master Builders Association. He was a founding trustee of CHASNZ and joined the BRANZ Board in 2019.
