The judges agreed that what separated Chief Exec Clifford Buchler in a close-run final was how our winner “took the bull by the horns, learned from his mistakes and looked outside for directions that would set his stores in good stead for the future”.
His boss, owner Terry Wilson, stresses Clifford’s ability to “focus on the human element” ensuring the operation has “the right people in the right positions”.
With 30 years’ retail experience under his belt, Clifford describes the Hardware Awards experience as “An amazing opportunity to share my experience, thoughts and ideas. Putting yourself out there is never easy, yet the exposure was humbling and extremely valuable.”
Looking ahead, personal plans include pressing ahead with his Bachelor of Retail & Business Management at Massey University.
