                                                          The decking screw with brains!
German-engineered SPAX decking screws work with timber, not against it, allowing timber decks to expand in wet weather and shrink in hot dry weather.
The SPAX fixing thread under the head clamps the decking board to the joist, locking the boards firmly in place while working with the timber during expansion and contraction, not against it, so loose and squeaky boards, protruding screw heads and premature failure are a thing of the past.
The function of the small SPAX cylinder head is not to hold down the boards but to house the SPAX T-STAR plus drive bit, enabling maximum power transfer to the screw as well as providing an attractive finish, while the SPAX cut point guides the screw precisely through the timber, its serrated threads cutting the timber like a sharp knife, reducing both the chance of splitting and the installation torque.
SPAX also offers smart solutions for boardwalks and fixing timber to aluminium and steel
substructure.

   Blackout for
lights and sockets
PDL By Schneider Electric has enhanced its design-award-winning Iconic switch and socket covers with a new model. The new Iconic Black switch has a matte black finish with a solid black edge and joins the range of existing Iconic skins which were designed in response to more demand for black, wood and darker-toned fixtures and finishes. Iconic switches and sockets allow homeowners and designers to personalise and customise every aspect of a home’s design in accordance with their preferred function and style – all with an easy and safe “click”. With Iconic, once the back-end is safely installed by an electrician, the front cover (skin) can be easily and safely clicked on and clicked off by the homeowner, as simple as changing a cover on your phone. www.pdl.co.nz
  GARDENA goodies for spring
GARDENA has a trio of new plant enhancing products due for release over October and November. Check them out...
October sees the release of the all-new GARDENA Bluetooth Water Control (photo above).Operated completely from a smart phone or tablet, using the free GARDENA Bluetooth App (for iOS or Android), this new water control can be easily configured and reliably controlled from up to 10 metres.
With up to three different irrigation schedules, the time, duration and day of the week can all be individually set, while a simple new Scheduling Assistant guides users towards their optimal watering regime, taking
the guesswork out of choosing the right settings for watering different plants in different areas.
Status LEDs give an at-a-glance view of operations. It’s 9V battery operated, comes with a two-year warranty, is rain- and UV-resistant and also features a manual watering button, safe stop technology and rain break pause.
The new Bluetooth Water Control is also fully compatible with the new GARDENA Soil Moisture sensor (available November), which uses a proven, accurate electrothermal measuring principle to save water by skipping the upcoming
water cycle if the soil is already sufficiently
moist. In addition to being water efficient, this
also avoids flooding plants unnecessarily.
Its low-profile design means a GARDENA
robotic lawnmower can move over it without damage or obstruction and, thanks to its compact size, the Soil Moisture Sensor can be used in vegetable plots, planters or virtually any garden setting.
With a two-year warranty the Soil Moisture Sensor is powered by two AA 1.5V batteries and comes complete with a 5 metre cable connection, while an additional 10 metre extension cable is available separately.
Also out this month is an addition to GARDENA’s range of high- quality, German-designed and -made secateurs – the high precision and exceptionally durable ExpertCut 12203-20.
Thanks to an additional phase in the hardening process, ExpertCut’s particularly sharp stainless steel blades with sap groove achieve an outstanding hardness of up to 60 HRC, making them exceptionally strong and durable. Indeed, an extra-long 35-year (non-commercial) warranty backs this robust new product.
ExpertCut bypass secateurs also feature ergonomic glass fibre- reinforced handles with soft components.
Lightweight at only 160g, and with buffers for joint care, ExpertCut has a maximum cutting diameter of 22cm and is suitable for both left
and right-handed use, with one-handed safety lock. The two-stage adjustable handle width allows customisation to
the user’s hand size, and also makes for comfortable, fast and efficient cutting of thinner branches and stems.
