                                                           TEC seeks input on
the first RoVEs
The process towards establishing the new Construction Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) is now in train.
At the heart of the Government’s reform of vocational education (RoVE) are Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs).
A CoVE is a consortium comprising education and industry experts and researchers, and will “drive innovation and excellence in vocational teaching and learning within the primary sector and construction sector”.
CoVEs will be hosted by a regional campus of the New Zealand Institute of Skills & Technology or by a wānanga.
As announced in late August, the first two CoVEs will be a Construction CoVE and a Primary Sector CoVE and, in parallel with some co-design workshops, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is currently seeking input from interested parties on:
• The functions each CoVE should
undertake.
• The scope of coverage for each CoVE.
• Who should be involved.
• How long the CoVE should run for.
• Location.
• What makes a successful CoVE (and
how to measure this).
Contact the TEC via email (CoVEs@tec.govt.nz) to have your say.
TEC’s role in all this is to facilitate co-design discussions for the CoVEs and enable the forming of consortium groups that will apply for CoVE funding.
A two-stage process – Expressions of Interest (due Feb 2020) and a Request for Proposals (due March 2020) – will be used to select which consortium groups will be funded to establish and operate the CoVE.

Bunnings bolsters
its SI presence
In addition to its Christchurch Airport store (due to open pre-Xmas 2019), Bunnings has its eyes on sites further south, including perhaps one at Tony Gapes’ proposed big box retail development on Timaru’s former A&P Showgrounds.
Bunnings GM NZ, Toby Lawrance, confirmed to Stuff that: “Timaru remains an area of interest for us and we would consider opening a store there in the future should the right opportunity become available.”

with so many stating that they’ll be returning to Japan, we’ll take that as a win!
“While RWC was a ‘beast’ in itself
to arrange a conference around (even without our usual business formalities), sharing the experience with 157 Shareholders, staff and suppliers was a once in a lifetime experience for most of us.
“We left with admiration for Japanese culture, food and landscapes, not to mention their passion for rugby.”
Juliana adds: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our suppliers
for their contributions, time and commitment to ITM. This conference wouldn’t have been possible with them.”
