Omicron pays havoc with event schedules
THE THREAT OF widespread infection from the Omicron strain of the Corona virus propelled New Zealand into the red setting of the Government’s Traffic Light System.
Red brought with it serious restrictions on the number of people attending events, so occasions like the Hardware Awards have either been postponed or cancelled altogether.
In terms of the Hardware Awards, we have settled on a new date of Tuesday 10 May with a further back-up if circumstances dictate.
Other events have been cancelled, including the Retail Interiors Association’s 2021 RED Awards, the winners of which will now be announced virtually on 24 February.
Also cancelled this year are the Northland Field Days (originally 3-5 March), and the Ford Ranger New Zealand Rural Games (originally 11-13 March), while postponements include the Concrete NZ Conference (now 13-15 October), the Waikato Home & Garden Show (now 6-9 October), and the Auckland Home Show (now 7-11 September).
Overseas, the latest big postponement is the International Hardware Fair in Cologne which moves from 6-9 March to 25-28 September.
One date that we hope will not be cancelled again this year is the ITM Auckland SuperSprint round of the Supercars championship, slated for 10-11 September at Pukekohe Park Raceway.
