“Consents by value for the November month continued to set new highs”
• Total: $2.9 billion (+28.6%).
By volume, 4,688 new dwellings
were consented in the November month (+20.8% on Nov 2020), of which 45% were standalone houses, 38% townhouses, flats & units, 10% apartments and 6% retirement village units.
Year to date November 2021, consent values were as follows:
• Residential: $20.8 billion (+29% on
YTD Nov 2020).
• Non-residential: $8.1 billion
(+16.7%).
• Total: $28.9 billion (+25.3%).
In the year ended November 2021, 48,522 new dwellings were consented, +25.6% on YTD Nov 2020, led by Auckland (+20% with 20,000+ homes consented in a month for the first time ever), Canterbury (+30%), Waikato (+26%), and Wellington (+22%).
In the year ended November 2021, the number of new dwellings consented per 1,000 residents grew again to 9.5 (compared with 7.6 in the November 2020 year), led by Auckland (11.9) and Canterbury (11.6) and Waikato (10.0).
YTD November 2021, growth in
the value of non-residential building consents was driven by education buildings (+30%) and factories (+63%) while consents for hospitals, nursing homes, and health buildings grew by no less than152%.
Stats NZ’s December 2021 building consent data is scheduled for release on 4 February, and the December quarter’s Value of Building Work put in Place on 8 March.
