All just about to complete or having completed their three- year BCITO painting and decorating apprenticeship, these young tradies were singled out after judges visited properties to check out their portfolio of work, talked to employers and customers about their skills, expertise and aspirations, and completed a general knowledge quiz about decorating.
With young women making up three of the four competitors, it’s noteworthy that BCITO says currently 18% of its painting and decorating apprentices are female compared with just 3%
a few years ago and that painting and decorating is the most popular trade for women.
This year the Master Painters competition attracted 160 entries – the most in the contest’s history.
