Page 23 - CollardGreenGarden
P. 23

There is always going to be someone who will try and scare you into doing what they want you to do. Sometimes this is okay, like when my mother told me not to fly through the blades of a fan because all my feathers would get knocked off and nothing is uglier than a naked crow.
But in our story, the Bull is trying to get the Young Girl to do something, “against her better judgment.” He is not trying to be helpful. He just wants to eat the collards. Instead of asking herself, “Now just what could that old bull do anyway,” she thought of the most horrible things possible. When we do that, we end up being taken advantage of by the “bulls” of the world.
I am not suggesting that you do anything stupid but don’t make yourself more afraid than you have to be when dealing with these types of characters.
1. What did the Bull say to the Young Girl?
2. What did the Young Girl think after the Bull threatened her?
3. What emotions did the Young Girl feel after what she told herself about the Bull?
4. What did she do about changing her garden?
