Page 5 - G-Jeff the Monkey
P. 5
Soon however, the trees grew so tall that even the adult monkeys had to climb the trees to get the bananas. Now that the adults had to work for the fruit, they were unwilling to give any away to the young monkeys and told them to learn to climb the trees to get the fruit themselves. Reluctantly, all the young monkeys learned to climb the trees, all but one, Jeff... Jeff the Monkey.
Jeff said, “Why should I climb the trees. I’ve always been able to have plenty to eat without climbing and I see no reason for things to change now!” And with that, he started screaming as loud as he could and continued screaming, aggravating all of the others. Finally, one of the adults had enough of this screaming and threw a handful of fruit to Jeff.
Jeff told himself that the “growing of trees” was just a mean trick to make his life difficult and he would have none of it. After all, this climbing stuff was difficult and the other monkeys were all just trying to be mean to him. Besides, if all it took to get food was a little screaming, he could do that forever.
I can understand Jeff being reluctant to climb the trees. They looked pretty tall to the little guy.
