“Too Smart” would still be disappointed that he made the poor grade but would have learned from the experience. He would now change his studying behavior so that he would be doing what is in his best self-interest.
It may sound simple, this doing what is in your best self-interest but it is not. You must learn to make decisions based on what is best for you, after considering the consequences of your actions. You must do this evaluation without negative emotions such as fear or anger. You must make sure that your decision is based on your best self-interest, not on you trying to avoid something or trying to cause someone else discomfort. It may sound easy but it is not.
However, it is in your best self-interest to learn to make decisions based on your best self-interest.
