P. 28

WORKSHEET
Young children will frequently depend on others to give them advice, just as the cranes in our story. The world of children, as with our cranes, is constantly changing. Unfortunately, sometimes the advice of others (and the child’s personal self-advice) is based on Stinky Thinking.
We all have heard jokes about the overprotective parent and the problems she causes for their children. It is the kernel of truth and our own experiences they makes the story funny.
Our children will have to face the difficult and scary (though not as difficult or scary as for our cranes) if they want to succeed in life. Developing a healthy respect for but not a fear of, the new and unknown are good qualities.
But just as in our story, some of us who tend to avoid the difficult or scary will find an advisor who has the same type of thinking.
Based on their advice, we will not be willing to take realistic life risks, such as trying out as a cheerleader, applying to a particular college or changing jobs. This is the type of Thumbs Down behavior of the Cantdo Cranes.

3. If you listen to the advice of others that is based on their S nky Thinking, will your behavior be Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down? Thumbs Down Behavior
