CONCLUSION
Does your child ever say... I can’t do it? What they are really saying is: I don’t want to do it.
I should not have to do it.
I am afraid to do it.
I have tried to do it and don’t want to try any more.
In most real world situa ons, it is never really about, I can’t do it and we should not get into the habit of allowing that phase to be an acceptable excuse for not doing something you can and should do.
The more a child is allowed to avoid the di cult or scary with an, I can’t do it, the more things they will believe that they can’t do.
As with anything, there are excep ons and situa ons that they truly can’t do. If you, as the adult are using your Good Thinking, recognize the legi macy of their can’t do; than make an excep on.
As with all faucets of Coping Skills taught in these stories, it is your  exibility in how you handle a situa on that makes you successful, not a rigid adherence to any preconceived ideas.
