Then the world began to change. It got cold where it used to be hot. It became dry where in the past there were swamps and so on.
As you might imagine that caused a lot of confusion. The animals did not know how to deal with the changes. One group of animals, the cranes, decided that they would seek the advice of the smartest creatures then living on the earth, the Elves.
Now I know what you are thinking ... Elves? But like I said, it is a legend so just stay with me.
