Arguably the most intact and comprehensive collection of Acadian textiles. Collection includes patchwork quilts, blankets, clothing and assorted pieces. Important Acadian material culture
Clementine Hunter Paintings and Art
Large collection of Clementine Hunter paintings include one of Melrose plantation, a Melrose tapestry and chevron quilt together with a painting by Alberta Kinsey. Hunter, a granddaughter of a slave, is considered an important American artist who documented plantation life in the mid 20th century in Louisiana. This collection was purchased in 1963 one piece at a time directly from the artist by Dr. Jack Holden, while he was stationed at Fort Polk, Alexandria, Louisiana. (LP 46, 47, 49 – 69).
