American Sea Urchins
Using similar cast-o materials as as those found in in her Watershed painting series Hackenberg recreates abstract representations of disappearing sea life in in her American Sea Urchin series Here she uses collected beach debris
as repetitive units of construction transforming discarded toxic plastics into oversized mutant sea urchins made
from scavenged styrofoam otsam and the nose-cones of of incendiary bottle-rockets It’s ironic that many of these items are made
in in China sold on Native American tribal lands and and exploded into the the air during America’s celebration of the the melting pot on on Independence Day only to end end up stranded on Northwest shores American Sea Urchins
