Theme: Good Wife/Bad Wife
This series contemplates the social role of wife and its impact upon women artists. The evolution and transformation of the wife role created problematic issues within relationships. Research uncovered the following phrase from Marilyn Yalom’s book A History of the Wife: “To be a wife may no longer be a badge of honor, but it is far from a badge of woe”. The first name of each artist is depicted on a patch; her identity is reinforced by the patch. The symbolic merit is her steadfast individualism despite being a member of a pair – despite being a good or bad wife.
