 HOLDEN COLLECTION: OBJECTS OF NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE Holden Collection consists of approximately 1,400 items that were made or used in Louisiana in the early 18th-century to about 1830.
   Colonial Armoire in the French Canadian Manner, 1750-1770: A most remarkable survival. It speaks of our Canadian heritage and peoples. An important piece of furniture. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 100, p.202.
Inlaid Creole-Style Armoire, 1810-1830
The “butterfly man armoire”. The most important Creole-Style armoire. This piece will be used in a forth-coming exhibit at the Louisiana State Museum on “The Butterfly Man” armoires. This is among the best in its group.
Intact and possibly the most important piece in the collection. There are 17 known Butterfly Man Armoires, 13 are with Inlay. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana fig. 58, pp.169-170.
Colonial Armoire, 1770-1790 The most aesthetically pleasing of the colonial armoires sporting a fleur-de-lis and an inventory of the contents on the back of the door. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 22, p.145.
Acadian Style Armoire, 1820-1840
Small Acadian Style armoire very similar to Canadian examples. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana fig. 90, p.195.
Slat Back Colonial Chair, 1750-1800 A History of the slat back chairs start with this example. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 1, p.291.
