 MISSION STATEMENT:
To maintain the property and collection of buildings with their related objects together (tout ensemble)
COLLECTIONS
Objects relevant to the material culture of early Louisiana. Currently being inventoried, approxi- mately 70% completed. Many of these objects have been borrowed for exhibits at the Smithsonian, Musee du Nouveau Monde (La Rochelle France), Louisiana State Museum, The Historic Collection of New Orleans and others.
  FURNITURE
Considered the comprehensive and in-depth collection of Louisiana furniture.
COLONIAL (Louisiana Provincial):
Style influenced primarily by mother country.
CREOLE: Style originated in Louisiana. ACADIAN: Style reflects Acadian culture.
SILVER
Comprehensive and in-depth collection of early Louisiana-made silver including Ursuline Convent silver, Academy of the Sacred Heart Convent silver. Early silversmiths include Delarue, Couvertie, Bellanger, Adams, Lemothe, Chassagne, Rasch and others. Imported French and American silver related to Louisiana. Thiery family silver.
BASKETS
Louisiana-made Native American baskets: primarily Chitimacha, Choctaw and Koasati. Chitimacha basket makers include the Darden family (John, Lydia and Melissa) and Faye Stouf.
CERAMICS
Collection based on archaeological shards found locally (parallel antiques) including imported English, French and American ceramics.
GLASSWARE
Collection of locally dug bottles and glassware. French bell jars (cloches). English stem ware and other.
LIBRARY
Reference material primarily related to material culture and gardens; rare period books.
TUNICA RELATED MATERIAL
Metal, pottery and glass, bottles, flint and red pigment.
OTHER
Material objects related to early Louisiana: Farming equipment including cane grinder and wagon, sugar kettles (including four 18th century examples), metal cookware etc. Cast kitchen bell marked New Orleans, 1818. Buggy.
   OTHER: Imported furniture from the American East Coast, France, Canada and West Indies.
WEAVING
Considered the comprehensive and in-depth collection of Acadian weaving.
ACADIAN: Acadian textiles primarily bedding but also clothing fabrics. Also includes equipment such as spinning wheels, looms and related objects.
OTHER: Textiles such as tignon, vests etc. PAINTINGS, PRINTS AND MAPS
PAINTINGS: Primarily portrait artists including Salazar (4), Vaudechamp (3), Rinck (3), Amans (1), Feuille (2), miniatures (8) including Collas and Valle. Also, watercolor by Evans, LaStrapes progenitors
in pencil. Alberta Kinsey and Millet landscapes. Clementine Hunter Collection: Comprehensive collection mainly from 1962 to 1964 including a quilt, a tapestry collected directly from the artist and a wall-size mural from Melrose auction.
MAPS: Tenasse, Delille, Lt. Ross and Darby maps of Louisiana and others.
PRINTS: De Woiseri view of New Orleans, Yeager Battle of New Orleans, Laclotte Battle of New Orleans, Audubon animals and birds, various prints from magazines of the period.
