I left Hillel Academy 6 years ago and took a job at Marblehead Charter School. I teach eighth grade math and science and am the chair of the math/science department. I t was a big change to work in a public school with all the state requirements, including the MCAS tests. The school is a project-based learning environment and allows the teachers a great deal of autonomy. I serve on the school's Board of Trustees and am chair of the Development Committee. Larry also left Hillel and is a fourth grade teacher in Lynn, a big change and an incredible opportunity to make a difference in the lives of his students.
Over the years, I have been involved in many other pursuits. I did youth work for United Synagogue for over 20 years and tutor for math, science and SAT prep. In addition to knitting and cooking, one of my favorite hobbies is calligraphy and illumination with which I make ketubot- wedding contracts. I am the chair of the cemetery committee for my synagogue, keeping up with the family business.
As for personal life, I met my husband Larry at work and we have lived in Marblehead for 28 years. It was always interesting as we worked together at the same school for 28 years. There were some challenges, especially with me being an administrator and he taking on the role of negotiator for teachers' contracts. I have one daughter, Sara, who had the unique experience of attending the school that both her father and mother worked at. She went to Marblehead High School and then on to Brandeis University. She is currently working as Assistant Director of Admissions at Brandeis and travels extensively for both work and pleasure. At work, in addition to recruiting in California, she is on the international team and has gone on recruitment trips to England, Israel, and the Far East. Travel is definitely in her blood and her main passion! We turned her on to travel when we took her to Disneyworld when she was 3 months old and continued to travel with her often. We have been on over 30 cruises to
the Caribbean, Alaska, and
various parts of Europe.
We also travel around this
country to different cities.
My husband is the one with
the true travel bug. I love
all our travel but I could
also be content at home.
Over the last few years, we
have made travel to Israel a
priority and go every other
summer. Our plan is to
retire within the next three
years. I have a hard time
believing we can afford it
but it is starting to tempt
me with the opportunities
we will have once we don't
have to go off to work
every day. 4dr
