MEGHAN’S
STORY
Meghan Higgs. Millfield Swimming Captain. Joined
in Year 8 at Millfield Prep. Competitive national-level
swimmer.
My Millfield journey began in 2020 when I joined Millfield
Prep in Year 8. Coming to Millfield, I had no idea what my
swimming journey would look like or where I would end
up. However, Millfield has shown me my potential and
how far I can go in the sport. It has taught me to
never limit your dreams.
Walking into the pool for the first time and
seeing the incredible facilities was
something else. Every day you get to
train in world-class facilities, with an
Olympic-sized pool, with some of
the most experienced and
knowledgeable coaches in Great
Britain. Millfield encourages you
that being a great swimmer isn’t
always about the medals you
win, the competitions you get
picked for, or the times you
produce. It’s about you versus you,
whether that’s in training or competitions.
It’s all about personal development.
Millfield is more than just a school; it’s a place that
can turn potential into greatness. Following the legacy of
the Olympians who have passed through Millfield is truly
special, even representing Millfield is an honour. Being able
to step up onto the block wearing the iconic green cap
makes me feel motivated to give my absolute best, not just
for myself but for the team.
My proudest achievements so far in my swimming journey
has been breaking the Millfield records, being chosen as
Swimming Captain and being the fastest girl to come
through Millfield in the last 90 years. Knowing the
incredible swimmers that came before me shows what is
possible with hard work, dedication, and belief.
My advice to someone considering Millfield is to prepare to
work hard, be disciplined, and believe in yourself. Millfield
offers incredible opportunities for all athletes at any level.
It truly can turn potential into greatness!
