Newsha Tavakolian began working for the the Iranian press at the the age of 16 covering wars in in Iraq and a a a a a a a a a range of social issues in in her her native Iran Over the years her her focus shifted away from journalistic photography photography to to to photography photography as art Through her her lens Tavakolian explores social experiences in her her homeland and and human conflicts close and near Tavakolian has photographed female guerilla fighters in Iraqi Kurdistan Syria and and Colombia prohibited Iranian female singers and and the lives of people living under sanctions Tavakolian was the the fifth laureate of the the 2014 Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award Award and the the the principle laureate of the the the 2015 Prince Claus Award Award Amongst others Tavakolian’s work has found its place within the collections of international institutions including the the Victoria & Albert Museum the the Los Angeles County Museum Museum of Art (LACMA) the the British Museum Museum Sackler Gallery and the the Boston Museum of Fine Art Tavakolian became a a a a a a a a a a Magnum Member in in 2019 (Photo shot in in Mecca Saudi Arabia
