"Other than marrying Jan, taking that job offer was the best decision I ever made."
1981
Ihired on with Paci c Telephone/AT&T in Oakland, California in 1970. I worked in downtown Oakland as a inside plant technician and was eventually transferred back to Spokane in 1981. My last eight years with the company was as an environmental and safety specialist for Washington and Oregon. I was offered a generous early retirement package in 1999 and took it, just shy of twenty-nine years of service. As it turned out, other than marrying Jan, taking that offer was the best decision I have ever made.

2016 After retirement, I decided it was time to go back to college and receive a formal
education. Part of my early retirement package from AT&T included paid tuition and books, if I continued my education.
I had been asked to leave Eastern Washington State College in 1969 for lack of academic performance. Ask me about hanging out in Tawanka Commons, nding places to sleep or goof off and I could write a book.
“I began college again, starting at point zero, attending classes at SFCC on January 4, 2000, also my ftieth birthday.
After graduating in 2002, I returned to my old school, now called Eastern Washington University, where I majored in reading and early childhood education. School District 81 hired men in the Fall of 2004 where I taught elementary education for the next nine years.”
