A MESSAGE
proceeding as planned . We arrived at the course
the next morning, it was a beautiful spring day, the course was in fantastic shape, and the crowd was buzzing with excitement . It did not take long for
the rumors to begin circulating that the tournament would be canceled, or that fans would not be allowed to attend . At lunch time, the commissioner of the PGA Tour announced that the tournament would continue but without fans . That was the beginning of a day of cascading cancellations including the NBA season, and eventually the remainder of The Players Championship, the Masters, and all other major events for the foreseeable
future . Businesses and governments also reacted
to COVID-19 and followed each other spiraling
into complete lockdown across the country . We spent the rest of March 12th in disbelief of what
was happening around us . It was a mix of anger, fear, anxiety, and helplessness . While it seemed incomprehensible at the time, hindsight shows us that the PGA Tour and others made the responsible decision to protect our health and safety .
The last few months have been unprecedented . My heart goes out to all those whose families, health, or livelihoods have been impacted by the virus . We were starting our weekly progress meeting when someone joined with the news of a plane hitting the World Trade Center . It wasn’t until after
the meeting that we realized the gravity of the situation . For previous generations, it was Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assasination .
Although COVID-19 had been in the news for months, I will always remember March 12th as the day it became real to me . It was the first round of the Players Championship and I was excited for my favorite week of the year . Our company has been a partner of the tournament since before it even became the Players and long before it moved to its home at TPC Sawgrass . The Players Championship and the PGA Tour are great customers of Miller Electric Company, and we always look forward to hosting our friends and clients every year for one of the greatest tournaments in golf .
When I went to bed on the night of March 11th, I was confident that the tournament was
