Hallmarked silver goblet, marking the silver jubilee of the “Don Abarbanel Brit Avraham״ order of brotherhood, with the gure of “ e American Eagle״ on a star of David with the initials of the organization's name, and with
the gure of Rabbi Don Yitzchak Abarbanel. New York, March, 10, 1912.
Speci cations: [1] silver goblet hallmarked STERLING and the artist׳s stamp. Height: 14 cm. Maximum diameter: 6 cm. Two reliefs on the goblet׳s two sides - a relief of the “American Eagle״ with the details of the “Brit Avraham״ brotherhood׳s jubilee celebrations, and a relief of the gure of Don Abarbanel.
Background: e Jewish order of brotherhood “Don Abarbanel Brit Avraham״ [“ e Brit Avraham Independent Brotherhood״], the OBA, was founded in 1887. is brother- hood was one of a series of Jewish social societies for mutual assistance which were established from the 19th century and onward in America and England. Among their other goals, the organizations dealt with cases of distress, sickness and orphan- hood. ey were active in education and arranged life insurance for the brotherhood׳s members. e order of brotherhoods often operated in a similar manner to the free masons. e orders of brotherhood became less popular and the number of members registered in them decreased dramatically with the increase in commercial insurance companies and activities of societies which dealt with the needs of the deceased and cultural activities.

גביע כסף חתום, עם ציון יובל הכסף למסדר האחווה היהודי “דון אברבנאל ברית אברהם״, עם דמות “העיט האמריקאי״ על גבי מגן דוד עם ראשי התיבות של שם הארגון, ועם דמותו של רבי דון יצחק אברבנאל. ניו יורק, 10.3.1912.
מפרט: [1] גביע כסף חתום STERLING וחותמת האמן. גובה 14 ס״מ. קוטר מירבי 6 ס״מ. שני תבליטים בשני צידי הגביע - תבליט “העיט האמריקאי״ עם פרטי אירוע יובל השנים למסדר “ברית אברהם״, ותבליט
דמותו של דון אברבנאל.
רקע: מסדר האחווה היהודי “דון אברבנאל ברית אברהם״ [“המסדר העצמאי ברית אברהם״], ה- OBA, נוסד ב1887. מסדר זה היה אחד מסדרת ארגונים חברתיים יהודיים לסיוע הדדי שקמו החל מהמאה ה-19, באמריקה ובאנגליה. בין שאר מטרותיהם דאגו האירגונים לסעד במקרי מצוקה, מחלה ויתמות. הם פעלו למען החינוך ולהסדרת ביטוחי חיים בין חברי המסדר. פעמים רבות מסדרי האחווה פעלו על פי דפוס הפעולה של הבונים החופשיים. עם הגברת פעילות חברות הביטוח המסחריות, פעילות חברות המטפלות בצורכי המת ופעילות תרבות הפנאי, ירד קרנם
של מסדרי האחווה ופחתו מאוד החברים הרשומים בהם. מצב: טוב-טוב מאד. מעיכות קלות בשפת הגביע.
