360 Novellae on Tractate Sanhedrin, in
the Handwriting of the Chatam Sofer
Novellae of the Chatam Sofer on Sanhedrin 12b, in his handwriting.
Speci cations: [1] large leaf, 27x23 cm. About 90 lines written on both sides. Autograph.
Unique features: ese novellae on Sanhedrin 12b were printed in Chiddushei HaChatam Sofer al Masechet Sanhedrin. e text of the manuscript that appears in the printed version is included with the lot. e manuscript has a number of words that the Chatam Sofer chose to erase, which enables the reader to get a glimpse into the manner in which he wrote and studied this topic. An added note that the ideas in the manuscript were copied on the 12th of Menachem Av, 04.08.1914, at the start of the First World War, is at the end of the manuscript.
Background: e Chatam Sofer recorded his lectures and novellae on topics and halachic responsa in an organized fashion. In one of his well-publicized letters, he notes,“I write the book with ink, all that Hashem has given me, both in halacha and aggada, and they are open to anyone who wishes to copy them, ״.this is how our predecessors acted before the advent of printing Especially unique was the fact that the Chatam Sofer wrote his novellae on complete topics in an organized fashion. His progeny and students guarded his manuscripts as a segula for fear of G-d and Divine salvations, out of their love for his Torah thoughts.
Condition: Fine. Fold marks, aging stains, large ink stain, 2x4 cm. In a customized half-leather binding.
360 חידושים על מסכת סנהדרין, בכתב יד קודשו של ה׳חתם סופר׳ חידושי ה׳חתם סופר׳ על סנהדרין י״ב ע״ב, בכתב יד קודשו.
מפרט: [1] דף נייר גדול 23X27 ס״מ. כ 90 שורות כתובות משני צדדיו. אוטוגרף.
מאפיינים יחודיים: חידושים אלו לסנהדרין דף יב ע״ב, הודפסו בספר “חידושי החתם סופר על מסכת סנהדרין״. נוסח כתב יד זה המופיע במהדורה המודפסת, מצורף לכתב היד. בכתב היד ישנם מספר מילים שבחר החתם סופר למחוק, והדבר מאפשר להביט בכך על דרך כתיבתו ולימודו בסוגיא זו. לאחר כתב היד נוספה הערה שהדברים המובאים בכתב היד הועתקו בי״ב במנחם אב לדרת״ם [תרע״ד, 04.08.1914]; בתחילת ימי מלחמת
העולם הראשונה.
רקע: החתם סופר נהג לרשום באופן מסודר את שיעוריו וחידושי הסוגיות, ותשובותיו בהלכה. באחד ממכתביו המפורסמים הוא ציין זאת בכותבו, “הנני כותב על הספר בדיו כל מה שחנני ה׳ יתברך, הן בהלכה הן באגדה, והמה מונחים הפקר לכל מי שרוצה להעתיקם יבא ויעתיקם, וכן עשו קדמונינו קודם הדפוס״. מיוחד היה רבינו בחידושי סוגיות, שרשם חידושי סוגיא שלימה באופן סדור. צאצאיו ותלמידיו הירבו לשמור את כתב יד קדשו, כסגולה ליראת
שמים ולישועת השי״ת, מרוב חביבות דברי תורתו.
מצב: טוב. סימני קיפול, כתמי זמן, כתם דיו בגודל 4X2 ס״מ. שמור בכריכת חצי עור ייעודית.
