The real story is the one who is telling us that he sees an elephant but the six blind men are mistakenly interpreting their experiences and giving us an incorrect description of an objective “object” (An elephant) Their statements, explorations of the object is not the reality but an illusion about their interpretation of the data, their fact is a translation of their incorrect personal experiences i.e. like the stick in water that looks bent but is straight ( refraction).
