experience a subtle flow of energy in his body and a peculiar sensation in his forehead between his eyes, as if something was opening. “Could this be related to the third eye described by yogis?” he wondered. Further, he described a sensation of cloudiness in this region and wondered if it was more than imagination.
Although they thought they understood many of the factors leading to this trip, Dr. J. and B.J. recognized the possibility of an influence from another dimension as well. Could it be that a teacher or master had been influencing them in subtle ways, and that it was now time for them to have a deeper spiritual experience?
Dr. H. was an L.A. psychiatrist who came with his friend N.S. He had worked with the poor in the community mental health system in Los Angeles and was interested in using drama as a way of developing deeper psychological insight and of promoting growth. Warm and giving, he was having some difficulty making certain professional decisions and hoped that this trip might help clarify them and give him some direction. N.S. was a friendly middle-aged woman who had an emotionally ill daughter. She hoped that Baba could help in some way. I felt that Baba had chosen these four people. Open, receptive and sensitive, they seemed hungry for spiritual insight, and he seemed to be calling them closer. We would be leaving early next morning, but first the evening program was about to begin.
As I lay in a deep trance-like state, I could hear the hustle and bustle outside my little sanctuary. I had to stir my limbs and ready myself for the bhajans1 which would start in about ten minutes —and then speak to the thousand or so devotees now gathering. My four traveling mates would be in the audience. Seeing the devotion of Sai Baba’s followers would deepen their understanding and help prepare them for the trip.
