leave through this door.” Holding onto his shirttail, I was swiftly guided to the rear entrance. Mounting excitement and a surge from the crowd pushed me one way and another. Yes, Baba was moving toward this door. In a moment he was standing before me.
The sparkle and radiance in his smile filled the room with light. Held in the soft magnetism of this smile, I began to lose contact with the crowd. The moment lost its frenzy and turned into something soft, intimate and holy. “May I touch your feet, Swami?”
I whispered. He smiled approval and as I knelt to the floor, as my lips touched his feet, the moment dissolved into jasmine and sweet honey. Gone was the darkness of the night and aloneness—gone the past and future—the sense of separation. Now only an expanse of white robe — a melting into an eternity of light—of vast space—of oneness. Nothing had become everything. And with the memory of that eternal moment fixed firmly in my heart, I offer this book to Him ...
