Points of View
CHAPTER SEVEN
IS MAN body and mind, or spirit? Is the purpose and meaning of life to be found in the successful gratification of desires, or in the transcendence and renunciation of them? Is the material world real or a delusion—a mere hint of a much vaster eternal reality? What about morality on the other hand? Is it relative and changing—or absolute, a narrow path to salvation? Can we honestly say that we are really content, living in the transient and evanescent? If not, could it possibly be because we yearn for union with the eternal, for the salvation of everlasting life and eternal peace? Is doubting divinity more realistic and intelligent than believing in it—or is this doubt conceivably a self-destructive defense against one’s mortal fear? Is Sai Baba authentic; could he be a vivid reflection of our infinite, eternal and divine nature? And is there a level of unconditional love, not yet defined in psychology, which is powerful enough to dissolve all our fears and limitations and lead us to liberation, total freedom from the tyranny of self-consciousness? Is mananimal... orGod?
