Swami then created diamond rings for the men. He materialized a small diamond ring for Philip and showed it to everyone. Knowing that Philip was disappointed with the small diamond, Swami playfully asked that the ring be given back to him. Blowing on the ring, he changed it so that the diamond became huge and sparkled like the sun. The stone sat on Philip’s finger like a proud king.
Swami again addressed Christine, “Are you sure you don’t want something else? I can make a stone for you.” Christine said no, that she was happy. One of the men in the group mentioned to Swami that Christine collected clocks, and Swami said, “I know. That is why I made a ring like that.” He then described some of the clocks that she collected.
Swami looked over to Christine once again and said, “You know, I can make a stone for you. I can do anything. I have command over the elements. You might have noticed that while I was outside with the students, they were dry. You saw rain in the distance, but not here.” Motioning toward the sky, he said, “I stopped the rain. When I dismissed the students and you came into the room, I let it come down.” There was a strange incongruity between the striking power and command that Swami was describing and the innocence with which he was saying it. Yet, I knew that he was telling us the absolute truth. Later, Christine admied that she would rather have had a stone but could not tell Swami. She knew that by his asking, Swami gave her an opportunity to overcome her insecurity and tell the truth.
I asked Swami a question that my brother, Donald, had wanted me to ask. As a medical doctor and lung specialist, Donald wondered if he could volunteer to work in Swami’s Super Specialty Hospital for a short time. He had wrien a leer to Dr. Safaya, the medical director, offering suggestions about a pulmonary ward. When I asked, “Swami, can my brother serve in your hospital?” Swami stopped and said, “It is not my hospital. It is our hospital.” Being included as a participant in Sai’s historic advent touched me deeply.
