Conscience
In the Vedantic construct of mind, conscience is that aspect of the mind that tells us what is right and what is wrong, what is significant and what is not. It prompts us to strive for the highest goals of life. In Appendix A, I relate how Swami refers us to one of the Upanishads to give us a deeper understanding of the makeup of our conscience. Developing our conscience is crucial for our psychological and spiritual growth.
Swami has pointed out a diagram that defines aspects that make up our conscience. This diagram brings new understanding about what is being purified in the course of spiritual practice.
In the Taithiriya Upanishad, 1 of the 10 principal Upanishads, the buddhi \[conscience\] is described as a bird. Sraddha \[faith\] is
