so that our vision can turn inward to God, who resides in the heart as love. When our senses are immersed in this love, then we can practice speaking, hearing, and seeing only good.
Buddha first realized the importance of sacred speech. So he prayed that he should speak only truthful, sacred, and noble words beneficial to others. Later he closed his eyes. Eyes are given to see the world and God. He realized he was using his eyes to see the unreal and transitory world, but not God. He felt disgusted with the futility of this world full of sorrow.
