Moving Tips and Tricks
• Hire movers as soon as you know your closing date. Make sure you discuss any special services you will need.
• Get utilities up and running in your new home by moving day. Forward your mail.
• Schedule time off of work.
• Limit your grocery buying prior to moving. It’s time to eat up!
• Sort items to sell, donate or dispose and clearly mark anything
that is not going with you on your move.
• Keep important documents and financial records in a clear
container and move this container with you in your vehicle along with an overnight bag for your first night. Pack all your essentials such as cell phone chargers, tablets, medicines, makeup, toiletries and medical devices. Secure your credit cards, valuables and checkbook. Do not leave these items for the movers to pack and move.
• Make sure you make use of containers, baskets, and suitcases. Label all of your boxes clearly for each room.
• Leave clothes on hangers; make use of space maker bags for linens and bulky clothing.
• Take a picture of the back of your TV so that you can connect all your devices quickly and easily.
• Keep screws and bolts in labeled plastic bags. Place them in a small box and clearly label it “parts box”.
• Start packing early to make sure you are ready for the moving truck.
• Once the truck arrives, work with the crew to let them know where you want items placed. Your presence during this time is crucial to avoid delays in unloading and unpacking.
