Academic Lectureship
The 26th Labatt BTRC Academic
Lectureship featured the lecture titled
“Understanding Clonal Evolution in Recurrent
Medulloblastoma: In Vivo Modeling and
Cancer-Selective Drug Discovery and Design,”
presented by Dr. Sheila Singh. Dr. Singh is
a professor of surgery and biochemistry, the
chief paediatric neurosurgeon at McMaster
Children’s Hospital, Division Head of

Dr. Sheila Singh with Dr. James Rutka
Neurosurgery at Hamilton Health Sciences, and the inaugural
director of the Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research at
McMaster University. Additionally, Dr. Singh is an alumna of
the BTRC, having completed her PhD under the mentorship
of Dr. Peter Dirks. She was a co-recipient of the 2023 Robert
L. Noble Prize alongside him. Dr. Singh holds a Tier 1/Senior
Canada Research Chair in Human Brain Cancer Stem Cell
Biology and is the founding Director of the McMaster Surgeon
Scientist Program. Her lecture provided valuable insights into
the evolving landscape of cancer research and drug design,
particularly regarding recurrent medulloblastoma.
