Can you tell us about where your journey started?
I remember my early days as a kid listening to hours of dance music and recording house music dj-mixes on tape, and then looking up the contributing artists and going to the record store to find their relation to the music (label, artists, remixers).
The rest is history; starting with my own events bringing the beats as a DJ in Switzerland and then going slowly into production. I remember the first years driving my car to my residency in Croatia and it being filled with hundreds of Vinyls, nowadays nearly unbelievable for the mp3 generation.
What kind of sacrifices did you have to make to come into the position you are today?
I think sacrifice is the wrong word - I would describe it as the different levels of passion you put into something. My best memories are those trying to learn about a house- music culture that was apparently pretty 'young' at those times. Going deeper into what you love makes you wiser, but still, you learn day by day. Nowadays I'm more than proud to be part of a movement that became that big and continues to grow.
What do you think of the newcomers to the music industry that expect success to be handed to them on a silver spoon?
I believe everybody deserves a
chance and to do what they love. In the end, the spirit lasts forever.
Try to put your own signature on everything you do, do it with love and as long as it's special for you - you will be rewarded for your art sooner or later.
Do you think the over saturation of the popularity contest that has become the DJ/Producer world has damaged the value of the music and the industry as a whole?
I would say nowadays there is probably some over saturation of everything in general. Music is art. It’s probably not so much about genres anymore, but the good music itself that matters.
I understand everybody wants tobeacoolDJ.Imean, lookat Armand Van Helden or Todd Terry back in the days and NOW, how much cooler can you get ? Originality will be recognized.
