Any guilty pleasures in terms of music artists that you listen to other than house music?
Most of the time I am searching, downloading other dis mixes from a number of styles and backgrounds. Listening to them in my Vdub Caddy van that has an awesome stereo traffic becomes less of a problem with a great mix on the go. Other than that always looking for chill out tracks for my chill mixes. I love all kinds of electronic music and try find genres to learn styles and be influenced by music from other parts of the planet, other cultures. Recently I recorded two new sort of chillout / after-hours electronic music journeys for Soundcloud. So I’m not really into anyone in particular, although Stuart Kings new album “Late Night obsessions” has been on repeat for a while now.
Any producers that we should know about that have been listening to recently?
Flembaz, Yiannis Billalis and Calimba who has an awesome track featured on the Tulipa compilation called Iodine, Paul Sawyer is making some noise with a load of new releases coming out, Tim Cook who runs Wolf Trap Records AKA Sousk has just had an EP signed to DJ Hells label. Bee Waa on Gibbon records, Scobi with his massive 2018 summer hit to be called “Electricity” all worth checking out...
Where in the world is your favourite place to play?
Tbilisi Georgia.... My second home where my wife is from.. You have to visit the place it’s amazing with amazing food and quality music venues with very strict music policies.
You’ve played in practically every country in the world over the years, are there any particular moments that stick in your mind?
I wouldn’t say every country... back in those days I was playing where underground music was popular before the days of the internet... Mostly Eastern Europe, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Georgia, Greece loads. Japan a few times, South
America loads. For 5 years I was Bedrock resident warming up for John Digweed in London and Brighton 3 hour warm up sets on both nights before international Dj’s & live PA’s every month... So spoilt back then... I really was lucky to have that opportunity over many years never realizing what a golden age of dance music we were living at the time. So many amazing parties year after year playing vinyl in those days. I remember playing at a beach bar now called Monk Paradise Beach Bar in Greece near Volos. If you google it you can see the location as its still there and I hope to return for a holiday one day. I started playing at about 2am and rocked it until I could not play any more as I ran out of records about 8am... Then was taken back to the hotel for a few hours sleep only to be woken up asking did I want to come back and dj as everyone was still there and asking for me. Still drunk on Tequila I went back to the bar and played another 3 or 4 hours. Times like that you can never repeat again or want to try.
What plans do you have for 2018?
As mentioned above the new Tulipa compilation release and continuous mix that I am really happy with is now out on Beatport. Also the Astir Miami compilation mix that will be out mid March. My remix for Scobi “ Electricity” that I feel could be a huge anthem. Obviously making some more new Moonface music where ever I get the time. A few remixes in the pipeline already one for Paul Sawyer on Krafted that will also feature a remix by Bedrock legend Nick Muir. A remix for Mirabilis after Paul’s remix is compete. I am up for gigs at the right venue where the crowds are into quality music. Open to whatever opportunities the universe may bring. Always up for an underground party, anything from a house party to a club, to a festival even after hours sets or warm ups. I enjoy playing the right music at the right time putting many hours into building my dj playlists.
