There’s always a lot of press centred around the difficulties within the music industry and gaining success. Were there times when you felt like giving up?
Brent: Yes, it's something that always comes around now and then, you question yourself and what you’re doing. However, it has always been about experiences, people, not the recognition or financial side, I have seen some real crappy things happen in the industry that have put me off, but I always bounce back quickly.
Ingo: I have often been disappointed in this industry, just recently quite intensively. Unfortunately, this is no surprise in this kind of highly contested fields, everyone wants the biggest piece of a delicious cake. You lick your wounds, stand up and go on, with the experience as your travel companion. I think about stopping about 20 times a day, haha! But 30 times to continue. Music always wins.
Which events have been your highlights during the last 12 months?
Brent: Have to admit my actual attendance at events has been quite scarce over the last year, this has really been down to concentrating on development of our labels and management. I guess our gig with Quivver in collaboration with Music is the Answer was certainly stand out form a performance perspective.
Ingo: I’m quite in the same situation as Brent. I don’t go out much. And when I do I attend one of the brilliant “Private Monkey” parties, promoted by my good friend Thomas Ullrich here in Düsseldorf, Germany. It’s a very special concept which I have never seen anywhere in the world, the line-up is always special and put together well. If you are my age, work so much and take on so much responsibility, then you think twice about how you spend your time. I prefer to spend time with the family rather than at a mediocre party. But there’s still a lot of juice left in me and I certainly love a good party!
Is there an event that you’ve not had the chance to play at yet and would love to?
Brent: I would love to get involved with Burning Man. Ingo: Same here! I regret not having had the chance to get
involved with Burning Man, so far.
If you were planning your last gig and you had to choose two artists to play back to back with, who would they be (dead or alive)?
Brent: Hernan Cattaneo & Solomun.
Ingo: Dave Seaman and Nick Warren. I’ve played with both of them together before, and they’re two of the greatest gentlemen and inspirations of my life as a music professional. That would definitely be a worthy ending of my DJ career.
Anything that we should be looking forward to from you guys in the coming months?
Brent: We have a huge catalogue signed up!
Ingo: I do not want to sound overbearing or boastful, but we really only have absolutely huge releases in the pipeline. And we
can hardly save ourselves from very good demos. Fortunately, every day we get excellent material from the best producers in the world, and I cannot wait to release it all. We really need to slow down here and there a bit, not to publish too much at once.
What’s the one track you’d wish you’d made or would form part of your label’s catalogue?
Brent: Tough one, so many classics and so much amazing new music. Right now and very much in the forefront is the new one coming on Sudbeat, White Gold, Hernan Cattaneo and Lonya Remix. By the way, loving Lonya and his work.
Ingo: I wish Bedrock’s catalogue would be all ours, haha! I really don’t know a better label than this. Everything done right.
Is there a track in your current playlist that’s your ‘go to’ track?
Brent: Deeparture remix of Time by Hans Zimmer, closely followed by something new on Pro B Tech Music: Menekee – Shitface.
Ingo: Fortunately - and this is not too often the case - we are currently experiencing an incredibly high quality of good Progressive House releases. That would be too much to list up here, but Brent is right: "Shitface" is the shit!
Where’s your favourite place to go to in the world? (Not necessarily to DJ, just in general)
Brent: It is actually Ibiza / Old Town, I totally fell back in love with the place when I went over for IMS 2014, however I really want to get to Argentina / Buenos Aires, very much a bucket list item.
Ingo: I've been lucky enough to travel the world and have seen and experienced so much. Deep in my heart are magical places like Iceland or the fjords in Norway, but also the volcanic islands of Indonesia. This planet has an incredible beauty, and we all see too little of it, and far too rarely. Otherwise, I'm glad when I can be at home with my loved ones having quality time together. This is very important to me.
Finally, any artists that you’ve discovered and would like to recommend to our readers?
Brent: 2 Reels, DAYDREAMn, are two who I personally see big things happening with!
Ingo: Of course, the ones Brent mentioned already. Bagabond is an amazing artist all of us should keep an eye on, as well as almost every yet rather unknown artist we signed to Pro B Tech lately. They’re all gems!
