We talked well into the night and made all kinds of plans Rex with his wine, me with bottled water this is how it would be now, at least for the next six months. He wanted to renovate the barn in the village and make it our home. Now that Paul and Seki seemed to have sorted out their problems the bar was running more smoothly, and he would be able to cut back his hours in the bar and concentrate on the restoration of the barn. We made a million plans for our future, everything felt right. We were happy.
Penny was delighted to hear our news and she invited us over for dinner with herself, Paul and Seki. We had a great night and just at the end of the evening Paul and Seki announced some good news of their own.
‘Mum, Amber, Rex’ Paul began, ‘we have something to tell you’, he was grinning from ear to ear and gazing at Seki said, ‘Seki and I are expecting a baby’.
‘Oh, darling how wonderful’, Penny could hardly talk through the tears, she was overjoyed and couldn’t stop hugging and kissing both of them.
There were hugs and kisses all round and then Rex surprised me by announcing our news even though we hadn’t discussed telling anyone, I was glad.
‘A double celebration’, Penny shouted with glee.
We would love if you and Seki would be the baby’s godparents’, I blurted out to Paul. Although it was a spur of the moment thing I looked at Rex to make sure he was ok with it. He was smiling, ‘absolutely, we would love if You could’.
‘We’d be delighted’, Paul accepted, and Seki nodded in agreement, tears of happiness running down her cheeks.
‘And Penny’, I continued, ‘would you do us the favor of being our baby’s honorary grandmother’?
