‘How lovely to see you! Are you alone’? she was just about to open a bottle of Cava, my favorite.
‘Hi Sherry, I’m here for a girlie chat, I left Rex looking after Lilli, bonding’, I smiled ‘he hopes to watch the American Giants later’.
‘I was just about to crack open a bottle’, she said apologetically, ‘but I’ll have a coffee with you instead’, I was still nursing so hadn’t been drinking.
‘How did your date go with Paul’? I asked.
‘Oh Amber! He is so sweet and of course handsome’, she gushed like a schoolgirl. ‘So, is there another date on the cards’? I tried to sound less interested then I was. I didn’t want her to guess I was on a mission for Penny.
‘Yes, he’s asked me out again, but it is a little awkward, you know with me working in the bar and I don’t think Penny is over the moon about us dating, plus that Jenny, she is a bit of a flirt, do you know a few times I caught her putting her arms around him and flashing her eye lashes’, it all come tumbling out in one long breath, ‘I don’t think he fancies her but she always puts in to be on his shift’.
She started to pour another coffee looking a little worried.
‘You have to remember Jenny and Paul have known each other all their lives, she probably just sees him as a big brother’, I tried to sound nonchalant but felt bad, I should warn my best friend just how much of a flirt Jenny was.
‘Never mind its early days’, she seemed to calm a bit, ‘I’ll give Jenny the benefit of the doubt’.
She definitely started to relax, and we chatted about other things. I’ll be high as a kite when I get home I thought as she poured yet another coffee.
‘How is Lilli? Has she gotten any teeth yet’? she asked smiling.
