‘I’m glad we crossed paths today Amber, I was wondering if you would like to help with the spring fair next month?’
‘How would I be able to help father’
‘If you go to see Mrs. Hughes she’s setting up a committee, there’s a meeting in the school tonight at 7’, he explained as he strode off not giving me a chance to respond. Hurrying along I dropped into the pub to see Penny.
‘Hello Amber’, Paul greeted me.
‘Hi Paul, is Penny about? I’ve just bumped into Father Thomas and he asked me to go to a meeting in the school about the upcoming fair’ I explained.
‘Oh! Yes, mother will be there she organizes the stalls every year’.
‘Good, tell her I’ll see her there’.
‘Anything to keep you ladies out of trouble’ Paul joked light heartedly not sure if he impressed Amber, worrying as he caught a glimpse of her serious face.
‘Cheeky lad!’, I called hearing Paul’s comment as I left the bar feeling a hot flush to my cheeks.
I liked Paul, he was kind and considerate not to mention handsome, but he was a tad young for me. I have always gone for older men, but maybe it’s time to change.
I thought about him on the drive home.
As I pulled into the cottage I spotted a familiar figure at my door. ‘Hello Amber’, my neighbor, the farmer from down the lane called. ‘Hello, Will, what can I do for you? ‘
Is Mrs. Cannon Ok?’, I inquired.
‘A little birdie told me you are looking for a couple of chicks’, his face beaming.
