pleased to be questioned by his boss and assistant on why he is returning home so late from a date!
‘Penny do you need me for anything else? I’m exhausted’, I told her.
‘You go ahead Amber, I’ll wait for Rex’, Penny retorted putting her motherly hat on. Within five minutes of slipping between the sheets, the Sandman came knocking. I slept soundly, too exhausted to dream.
A knock on my door told me I slept through the alarm.
‘Breakfast is served’, someone called softly from the other side of the door.
‘Two minutes’, I replied pulling myself together.
On entering the kitchen/breakfast room I took a fit of giggles at the sight of Rex in Penny’s frilly pinny, red faced and bare-chested.
‘Sit, sit’, he ordered pulling out a chair for Penny and myself.
‘Before I sit down to eat you need to put a shirt on young man’, Penny said with indignation. ‘Don’t forget we have two couples booked in for the weekend, so you and Jenny need to be on your toes’, Penny snapped at Rex as she cleared her plate, almost appearing ungrateful for the delicious breakfast. I gave a disapproving look at her retort to Rex it wasn’t like her at all.
After Rex had left the kitchen we started to load the dishwasher in silence, I knew something was up but waited for Penny to talk first, she was not in a good mood.
‘I am sorry for my earlier unpleasantness at breakfast’, she finally broke the silence. ‘That lad did not come home until all hours this morning, he kept me up and he had a lot of drink on him’, Penny said angrily her voice getting louder as she spoke. ‘Penny calm down, why are you taking on the role of Rex’s mother?’ I pointed out trying to make sense of the situation, ‘he is a grown man and an employee of yours’.
