Penny reached over and took my hand it was so comforting to have her there to talk to. ‘I don’t want to lose him before we get started Penny, it scares me’, I felt so emotional.
‘I know what you are saying but you should tell Rex what you told me. He may not be ready to settle for nights by the fire’, Penny said sympathetically, ‘It’s best to be honest from the start’.
Back in the hotel we indulged in a lavish three-course meal that left us so full. We made a mutual decision that we had no room for any alcohol tonight but that lasted all of three minutes as Sherry arrived and ordered a round of cocktails for all of us not taking no for an answer.
‘Can’t disappoint the bride and groom’, I said to Penny, she laughed in agreement. Brian stood center stage for most of the night, not allowing any of us get a word in edge ways. He went into immense detail about the family business and how successful it was at the moment, letting us know, I felt, how wealthy he was compared to us. Then he regaled us with the story of how he met Sherry and how smitten he was. As he paused I use the opportunity to say to Sherry, ‘I’ll call you in work in a couple of weeks, so we can catch up on how the house is coming along’. ‘We’ll be honeymooning for a month, so Sherry will call you’, he said coolly, ‘She won’t be going back to work since we are married now there’s no need’, Brian casually sipped his drink but judging by the look on Sherry face this was news to her.
‘Darling I told Jack I’d be back to work after our honeymoon!’ Sherry spoke softly but if looks could kill Brian was dead and buried.
Penny noticing the tension quickly intervened and asked about their honeymoon and commented, ‘how lucky you both are to have such a long break’.
