We arrived back to the Penny Lane late that evening, Rex unloaded their luggage while Penny joined Paul and Seki for a late dinner and quick catch up on how things had gone. I quickly popped in to say hello to the happy couple and then savoring a long goodbye to Rex I explained that I would probably need a couple of days to organize and set up for my first art class and that I would get in touch soon, in reality I needed some space to think about what I would tell him about my past. Penny was right I had to talk to him about how I wanted my life to be like from now on, but I needed to sort out how much I would divulge and how to tell him.
It felt good to put the key in my door of my own home, it was a great holiday, emotional to say the least, but I was happy because I knew I had done the right thing by coming here. I called farmer Will to let him I was home and that I would visit him tomorrow and drop in the bottle of Irish whiskey I’d bought on the ferry as a thank you for looking after my hens. I better let Mrs. Cannon know I’m home too I thought, I’ll drop into her tomorrow too, I’d bought her a tea cozy in the shape of a shamrock, it was just her type of thing.
After unpacking my bags, I ran the bath and had a much-needed soak. Having washed away all my aches and pains I come back down to the kitchen and prepared a light snack. I settled down on the sofa, food on my lap, magazine ready to peruse. The strain of the long journey disappearing.
‘Barring, Barring’
The sound of bells brought me out of my slumber opening my eyes I noticed that the room was no longer bathed in the evening sun but was grey as the night had closed in Barring Barring The phone continued to ring. I reached to answer still slightly groggy ‘Hello Darling!’ Rex’s voice, ‘Amber darling it’s me’.
