B astian Bux is the consequence of reducing everything surrounding a DJ and producer to its essential element: the music. That is the intention of Bux:
be stripped of all artifice and be judged by his work. Pieces full of deep textures, powerful harmonies, heavy beats and fat basslines; where everything is assembled with soul and sensibility, with the mastery of a craftsman and surgeon's precision.
His debut came with his ‘Stay’ EP on Suara, where four timeless tracks laid the foundations of what Bastian Bux means today: deep and emotional Techno, dark House, and high class Electronica. Such was the success of the debut that, a few months later, he repeated on Coyu's imprint with ‘Teardrop EP’, ‘Screenshot’, ‘Tresor’ and his recent ‘Oracle’ EP, where his stylistic range extends further, going from futuristic Deep House to Progressive Techno, was remixed by Suara label-boss Coyu.
After taking his first step into remixing, reworking Habischmann’s ‘All I Dream’ for Dave Seaman’s Selador imprint, Bastian’s newest outing is on Nicole Moudaber’s esteemed label MOOD Records, and has been supported by artists such as Pig & Dan, Christian Smith, Jay Lumen, Carlo Lio, Pan-Pot and Adam Beyer. In only a year, Bastian has seen his work supported by most of the underground’s heavyweights, and his profile has risen accordingly.
In front of a crowd, Bastian is able to travel elegantly from housy grooves to rough techno, going through epic melodies and sober beats, always loyal to his way of understanding music but without losing sight of the dancefloor. That ability has earned him the status as a new resident for elrow, one of the most important brands in Europe, based in Barcelona and Ibiza, and has seen him tour the globe. After his summer residency at Space Ibiza, which saw Bastian perform at the historical Space Closing Fiesta, he has also recently taken his signature sound to standout shows at The Warehouse Project ADE, Hideout Festival, Tomorrowland and to supporting electronic icon Jean- Michele Jarre live in concert, as well as other venues across Europe and the Middle East, proving that 2017 certainly looks bright for this new, up and coming techno wonder-kid.
TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU STARTED OUT, AND WHY YOU GOT INVOLVED IN THE SCENE?
I've been making music for more than 15 years now... I started when I was just a child. Why? I don't know, I always
thought that it was because I get bored easily, and music is always giving you new challenges. It is impossible to control or to predict music. That's why I love it. I started making music and step by step gaining recognition, opportunities, etc.
VINYL, DIGITAL, CD OR ALL? AND WHY?
All of them. I just can't find a reason why I have to chose between good things that serves the purpose of expressing yourself, enjoying and having fun. Dated debate in my modest opinion.
BEST EVENT YOU HAVE PLAYED AND WHY?
I can't choose one. It is simply impossible. I repeat to myself that I have the responsibility to take the best out of every event and gig.
WORST EVENT YOU HAVE PLAYED AND WHY?
Undoubtedly one I did 4 years ago, just before quitting my job on the music for a while. It was in a really small town lost in the middle of nowhere in Spain. The stage was a weird structure as if taken out of a Saw movie. The crowd was grumpy, in a really bad mood, shitty soundsystem, technical difficulties, bad equipment... This gig was the perfect definition of a nightmare. I've been touring many years and I know that sometimes these things happen, but that night happened all at the same time.
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF NOT A DJ AND PRODUCER?
A lot of things! I love writting, cooking, drawing... I also love maths and physics. And entrepreneurship. I don't know what would I do exactly but I'm sure that I would not be bored.
BEST CLUB AND WHY?
A small one, for like 500-600 people, with a dark vibe and a great soundsystem and a crowd willing for a great journey. Inside this kind of venues is where I always feel the bests emotions and sensations. No names needed, you all thought about different places when reading it and I'm sure that all of the can be amazing.
WORST CLUB AND WHY?
The one I told you on the fourth question. If you ask me why, I'll ask you: Do you need more reasons? Hahaha
