Third Party, Pete K & Corey Lasser - Like This [Release Records] [Progressive House]
Off the back of the success of Third Party’s debut album ‘Hope’, the duo’s first new track is a co production with Release Records latest signing Pete K and Cory Lasser and shows off their more progressive, clubby routes. There is a club mix and a radio edit and the ‘Club Mix’ is a real party starter in every sense. It begins with a percussive loop and grows with a one note string line and an acidic lead line to a break with a massive riser and snare roll and then the now famous vocal sample “now it goes a little something like this” ushers forth the main body of the track which is one of those calls to the dancefloor that some tracks just have in abundance. Its progressive but tough edged and at high volume is a wall of exquisite noise that I could listen to over and over again. There are echoed vocals distorted sounds and it is packed with electrifying energy. The ‘Radio Edit’ manages to keep the intensity as high as the club mix and I can see this release really doing some major floor damage wherever its dropped over the next few months and onwards. My Favourite is the club mix as you get more of this wonderful track that I have had on loop on my decks for ages and it still sounds fresh and exhilarating on every new rotation. Miss this at your peril.

Smooth Operators vol 1 - Charlie Smooth EP [Berlin Bass Collective] [Funk]
A change of pace here with an EP of what can best be described as old school new school funk with a serious nod to the likes of Parliament and Funkadelic from the Berlin Bass Collective who were founded with one goal’ “to spread positivity and good vibes through music.” The first track is titled ‘A Bitter Sweet Edit’ and has a slow tempo that is laden ad hoc vocals with choppy guitars, bongos and congas and a funky bassline to underpin it all. It reminds me of George Clinton’s approach to making funk which for me is a great thing! Second up is ‘I’m Alive’ which is a slow tempo jam with strange vocal chants flutes and whip cracks which has a latin feel to it. Number three is called ‘Inhuman Song’ and is a real funky workout with wah wah guitar a full vocal in german (I think but that is a guess), saxophone and trumpet and much funky chanting and finally you have ‘El Fan’, Which has a dry funky bassline and a lo fi feel to it as if it is meant to sound old with more choppy guitars, chanted vocals and live drums. It has to be said that this EP is very different from what I normally review and is refreshing as it reminds me of my obsession with all things funky in music before I had even heard of House Music. If you also were a fan of Funk and Rare Groove you will want to check this out and if you weren't, give it a try...you might like it!

Alex Mo - Persistence [Morality Records] [Trance]
The line between Hard Dance and Hard Trance has been blurred here on Alex Mo’s Latest ‘MoGoSolo EP 3’ and the results are pretty tasty with a hard hitting track that pushes all of the right buttons. It starts with a kick drum and a cornucopia of random sounds and then instantly comes into focus with the introduction of a chunky electro bass line and a grunting acidic lead which is added to further with another synth played lead line which takes you to the breakdown. Now this is where the track really comes alive with pianos, distorted riffs, snare rolls and lush pads all swirling around your headspace until it all kicks off again at a great pace. All the sounds interact really well and the main riff drives you ever forward in this energetic number that is more Trance than Hard Dance and sounds all the better for it. As the track comes to an end there is still great attention to detail with neat production tricks and mad firing sounds that keep you on your toes and your hands in the air right to the last bar. So if you like it hard, fast and emotional this is well worth listening out for and for me is the best so far of Alex’s ‘MoGoSolo’ series. It leaves you wanting for more and I can’t wait to give it a good caning over the coming months.

Klangkuenstler - Pop Dem Bottles EP [Elrow Music] [Tech House]
Elrow Music are keeping those summer vibes alive with their latest release from Germany’s uber-talented Klangkuenstler with this 90’s influenced Tech Hip House release. The title track is first to the plate and its a party tune of epic proportions with a funky bassline, vintage Hip Hop samples and crashing percussion that will get the most jaded clubbers up on their feet and grooving. From start to finish this tune is relentless in its approach with onenote string lines for tension and whoops a plenty in this upbeat funster. Next up is ‘House Your Body’ which starts with a kick and brings forth the “house your body” sample in snippets as the backbeat develops and is fueled with funky bass, brass stabs and bongos that again give it masses of dancefloor appeal. Last up ‘Girlfriend Mentions’ which starts with a tribal drum loop and again builds in layers of sound and percussion into another solid gold funky Tech wonder with more vocal samples and a distinctive retro Tech sound. It is a bit deeper than the first two but is still a floor filler that rocks at loud volume with synth stabs, swung percussion and another killer bassline. So if you are looking for a release that's guaranteed to fill a dance floor every time, please check this out as it has all the elements required to make your club or party go off like a fourth of july firework display. Its Hip House with a delicious Tech twist and I for one will be hammering it for months to come and I suggest that you do the same!
