" The initial spark came from the fact that we share very similar tastes but also like quite different things, so creatively that leads to unusual places we wouldn’t go in our solo
productions. "
Having toured the U.S.A. and Mexico just over a year ago, what kind of reaction did you get? In what way do North American audiences compare with European audiences, in the (cliched) sense that perhaps Europeans are often unfairly perceived to be more in tune with the pulse of electronic music in general? European and American crowds are not miles apart, the main difference being between America and Europe is that in Europe club culture is a little more rooted in the audience’s habits. Whereas in US it seems to be more the festival/hard tickets shows that are more common and that can influence the music a DJ would play in those situations.
The greatest way, in your collective opinion, for a musical duo to compromise is.. Just give some space to the other person to develop his idea so you can hear it. You need the freedom to be able to try things out even if it sounds completely weird for a few minutes. Ideas need time to develop and grow, it’s a case of trial and improvement. If the two of you are vibing that will translate to your audience so it is important to have fun!
What are your top tunes at the moment, and which artists are you predicting to make the breakthrough this year?
Jon Hopkins - Emerald Rush Bicep - Opal (Four Tet Remix) Skee Mask - Routine Kink - Throwing Elbows Special Request - Make It Real (Gerd Janson & Shan Mars Remix) Lanark Artefax - Touch Absence
