Well Folks, back again with another huge issue! With so much
happening in the world of Electronic music, across Ireland & the world, we
endeavour to capture as much as we can for you to feast your ears & eyes on! Lots of great things happening here at Zone HQ just for you lot, so keep comming back! Zone would
like to welcome a new member to the team; Sebastian Gruben, a top photographer from Germany, who will be filling some space with snaps from clubland for us!
In our feature interviews in this issue we talk to cover beauty, and one of the icons of dance music, ANGIE BROWN. Every artiste needs a big break and Angie’s came in the early nineties when she was freelancing for an agency in an attempt to become known. Then came Bizarre Inc. who were looking for a big voice to perform their next track following the success of “Playing with knives”. One audition and three months later the “I’m Gonna Get You” was mixed and the pre-sales were 45,000, it went straight into the UK National charts at #17 and finally rested at #2. With the success of this track Angie was able to launch a full time career as a vocalist and now appears sometimes as a featured artiste or more recently on all new projects actually co-writes tracks with the DJ or producer as well as performs them. Examples of her work in more recent times can be heard on various labels including Hed Kandi, Milk & Sugar, Krafted and Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records.
We also talk to FATIMA HAJJI, from Portugal. Iberian/Arabic rhythms have been whetting electronic appetites for some time now, so it's not surprise that her live appearance in Dublin in late March cultivated such frenzied interest. Serpent-like grooves draw their victims in, while Hajji strikes for the jugular, sometimes with a venom-tinged bolt of lightning, or sometimes something so subtle, it's far too late to fight it when it does become apparent. With an arsenal like this, her audiences are willing participants in a slinky slithering cornucopia of fresh patterns laid out below the digital thunderbolts Dublin's devotees have been yearning for years.
We also talk to The THRILLSEEKERS (Steve Helstrip) Steve has been at the forefront of the trance scene since the release in 1999 of his critically acclaimed track "Synaesthesia". Helstrip has also worked under the guises of En Motion, Insigma, Rapid Eye, and Hydra. He is also prominent for his work in remixing, having remixed work by Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and many more . Steve owns his own record label, 'Adjusted Music'. “Synaesthesia" was first signed and released by Neo Records in 1999 and went on to sell over 12,000 copies on its initial release and was heavily supported by famous DJ’s including Paul van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold. Synaesthesia peaked at #28 in the UK Singles Chart and was featured in the 2001 film The 51st State.
We talk to METROPLANE, from the UK. A name like Metroplane seamlessly fits those 21st century prerequisites we "the punter" have come to expect; sleek, dynamic, hip, mysterious even - in fact, add double-edged coolness to that mix and Alex Metric and Aeroplane could be the ideal space-age cowboy duo, dodging bullets in faraway solar systems while the synth player ducks, saying "don't shoot me I'm only the..."; well, I'm sure you get it by now. Scene-setting aside, Metroplane's astral adventures have been something of a not so well-kept secret in recent years, and messers Heyes and Curry (sorry, I mean Messers Metric and Plane) landed their intergalactic craft for an hour or so to discuss their recent achievements, goals, pet loves, pet hates, pet sounds even, while waiting for take-off clearance to the next galaxy.
We also chat to DJ TETRACTYS from Greece. Musician, producer, DJ and electronic music enthusiast alike, Sakis Berlin aka Dee Jay Groove hails out of Greece, Lamia. When not performing, he spends his time in the studio creating his own music. Having spent many years playing at all of the major local night clubs in Berlin & Europe, holding multiple residencies, DJing special events and promoting his own shows, Sakis has had a lot of time to develop his sound. For him, it’s all about mood and a deep, hypnotic Groove - electronic sound... playing those tracks that get you tapping your feet and nodding your head.
We chat to Joe Cocolucci from the UK in our Producer spotlight, and we chat to Irish man DJ JayoC in our spotlight interview. We check out whats happening in clubland in VIETNAM, at Vibe nation Beachfest and we take a look whats been happening at Musikmesse and Pro light & Sound 2018 in GERMANY. We head to the NETHERLANDS to check out Coldharbour night @ Venlo.
